Tammy slowly creaked open the arena door. The jumping arena was empty. She walked in further.
"Walk on boy." Tammy said as she lead her chunky bay stallion into the arena. The stallion's ears pricked as he looked around excitedly at the new surroundings. Tammy and her horse Danny, had only recently qualified to board at the stables. They were very selective about who can board there horse at these top jumping barns.
Tammy lead Danny quietly over to the mounting block. Tammy quickly tightened Danny's girth and swung herself lightly in the saddle. The stallion danced around as she settled into the saddle.
"Walk on Dan." Tammy said firmly as she have him a nudge forward. Danny sprung forward into a trot but was slowed down by Tammy's voice.
Together they walked and trotted to warm up. Danny was in a steady working trot with Tammy sitting light in the saddle.
Tammy clucked her tung, "Canterrrrr." She said, holding the R's. Obediently Danny moved into a fluid canter. His stalky legs beating on the ground as he floated effortlessly across the sand.
Tammy turned him toward a low, 18' jump. Danny rushed forward excitedly, but Tammy knew what was coming and slowed him down and moved with him as he popped over the jump.
"Good boy." She murmured. Slowly, bit by bit, Tammy raised the jump until it was about 4'3. Danny gathered himself before the jump, and then springing into the air, soaring over the jump. The young stallion gave a buck of delight. She took him over a few times before she decided to walk him around on a loose rein for the cool down.
As she walked past the door, it opened and another horse and rider began to enter. Tammy smiled at them and continued walking her big built stallion around.
"Hey." Tammy finally managed to say, "How long have you been riding here?"
